Houses on Stilts

In places like Assam where it rains a lot, houses are built
on poles or stilts. These houses are made of wood and
have slanting roofs for rainwater to slide down easily. The

stilts keep the houses above the ground and protect them
and the people from floods, insects and other animals. In

most stilt houses, a ladder is used to enter the house and is

Houses on Boats

We find houses on boats or houseboats in places like Kashmir
and Kerala. They have a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom.
They are also called floating houses. They float in canals and

lakes.

Houses on Wheels

A caravan is a house with wheels and can move from one
place to another. It is also called a travel trailer. People who
keep moving from one place to another live in a caravan.

Tents

Tents are movable shelters made of canvas, cloth or leather.
They can be fixed and folded easily. They are used by people

in mountains and deserts, and while camping.

Igloos are dome-shaped houses made of blocks of ice. They

can only be made in extremely cold regions like Greenland
that are always covered with ice.
