            Gurdwaras and Temples

Langar is a free meal served in a gurdwara and bhandara is a free meal served in a temple.
People of all religions sit together on the floor and eat these meals. Food is cooked and
served by volunteers. It is often served on plates made of dried leaves called pattals or

in disposable plates. Only vegetarian food is served in langars and bhandaras.

            Hostels

Many children study in a hostel or a boarding school.
This is a school where students study and stay with

other children. They are served their meals in a
common dining hall at fixed times.
