Modes of Communication

Communication is the act of sharing ideas and information through speaking, writing
or using signs and sounds. People usually communicate by talking, listening or writing.

Let’s learn about some ancient modes of communication and some modern ways of
            communication.

            Ancient Modes of Communication

In the ancient times, people used simple ways to communicate with each other. They

spoke face-to-face or used signs, sounds and drawings to express their views.
Early men used to carve messages on stones for everyone to see. Ancient Indian scholars
used leaves, bark or scrolls to write messages for the future generation. In some places,

people beat drums or used smoke signals to send messages from far away. Kings and
rulers used messengers who travelled long distances to deliver letters.

The ancient methods of communication were slow and took days or weeks to reach
others. But, they were considered important in those times as they helped people stay
connected with the people who stayed far away.

                 Smart Stack
In ancient times, pigeons were trained to carry secret messages across kingdoms. These smart
birds could fly hundreds of kilometres and always found their way back home.
