Case Study: Father-daughter Reunion Due to Google Maps
In March 2019, a 12-year-old girl travelling to Delhi fell asleep in an e-rickshaw and was separated
from her father. She couldn’t remember her home address but remembered that she came
from a village named Khurja. During police investigations, teams searched for villages in Uttar
Pradesh with similar names with the help of Google Maps. Using them, they identified potential
matches such as Kurja, Sonbarsa and Sakapar, and successfully traced her origin to a village in
Siddharthnagar district.
The girl was then safely reunited with her father after more than four months apart.
Based on your understanding of the text, answer the following questions.
1. How did Google Maps help the police locate the girl’s village?
2. Why was it difficult to find the girl’s home without the help of technology?
3. What does this case tell us about the usefulness of digital tools in real-life situations?
