Modes of Travel

Travelling means to move from one place to another across long distances. People travel
for many reasons such as work, education or leisure. To travel, we use different types of

transport. The vehicles like cars, bicycles, scooters and motorcycles which are owned by
individuals are called private vehicles. On the other hand, buses, auto-rickshaws, trains,
ships and aeroplanes are used by the public for a fare and are known as public vehicles.

Ancient Modes of Travel

In earlier times, there were no buses, cars or aeroplanes.
People used to walk long distances to travel from one
place to another. They also used animals like horses,

camels, elephants, donkeys and oxen to pull carts to carry
goods or passengers. They also used boats made from bullock cart

wood to travel on water.

The ancient modes of transport took several days or even
months to travel from one place to another. This was also
because roads were not built properly at that time and

there were many difficulties on the way.
