Veronica and Her Green Neighbourhood
It is a bright Sunday morning in Greenfield Colony.
Veronica is a cheerful girl who loves to explore her
neighbourhood. She knows every friendly face.
She knows the baker who makes soft buns, the
postman who whistles as he delivers letters and
the doctor who gives free check-ups on Sundays.
This morning, Veronica notices the park is messy.
She sees plastic wrappers on the lawn and bottles in
the pond. She remembers how during the spring
festival, the community works together to
decorate the streets with flowers and lights.
“If we can celebrate together, we can clean
together too!” she thinks. She decides to ask
her parents to call a meeting in the community
hall to talk about saving their environment.
Soon, her friends and elders from the community
gather in the park. Veronica stands up and begins,
“A clean green street,
Makes life feel sweet!”
”We can clean the park, but we must also keep it clean,”
says Mr Patel, the head librarian, who promises
to put up posters about cleanliness. Veronica
suggests adding recycling bins in the market,
near the school and in the library. The fire station
chief offers to educate children about the dangers
of burning waste. Everyone plans to work together on
Sunday after a hearty breakfast. Veronica imagines
how the whole neighbourhood will join hands
to make the place clean. Mr Patel ends the
meeting with a cheerful note,
”If we care and share,
Fresh air’s everywhere!”
