                                                    About the Chapter

This chapter explains how animals are our friends and an important part of nature. It describes
different types of animals based on their surroundings such as terrestrial animals that live on land,
arboreal animals that live on trees, aquatic animals that live in water, amphibians that live both
on land and in water and aerial animals that fly in the sky. We also learn that many animals live
in groups for safety, care and sharing responsibilities. The chapter highlights how some animals
are shy while others like dogs and cats are friendly to humans. Interesting examples show how
animals help each other like plover birds cleaning crocodiles’ teeth or cattle egrets feeding on
insects from cows. The chapter also covers birds, their special features like feathers, wings, beaks
and migration habits as well as how they live in different ecosystems. Finally, it explains animals’
ears, body coverings and their role in survival through adaptations like camouflage.
