About the Chapter
The chapter teaches us how to deal with the waste we produce every day. Waste can be separated
into different types for proper handling. We learn about biodegradable waste like food peels and
garden leaves which decompose naturally, and non-biodegradable waste like plastic and glass
which do not break down easily. The chapter explains safe methods of disposal of waste to keep
our surroundings clean and protect the environment. An important part of waste management
is following the 5 R’s – Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose and Recycle. Each step helps us to
minimise waste and use resources wisely. Special attention is given to recycling of paper which
saves trees, reduces pollution and gives old paper a new life. By practising these habits, we can
reduce pollution, conserve resources and make our planet a healthier place for all.
