Preface
Preface
The environment plays an important role in the existence of life on Earth. It, thus, needs to
be saved. Keeping this in mind, the students must be taught about the relation between
self, society and the environment. The World Around Us endeavours to create awareness
about the environment in the young generation, and inculcate a scientific outlook and a
holistic understanding of the world around them. It also aims to help them discover the
prevailing environmental issues and act accordingly.
VOLT ELEVATE The World Around Us is an academic course for preparatory stages 3 to 5.
The book has been designed in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020
and National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023, which are historic steps
towards reforming and modernising our education system. NCF–SE 2023 focuses on
the development of 21st century skills like critical and logical thinking, productive and
receptive skills, digital-age literacy, collaboration and creativity, and inculcating values
like cleanliness, responsibility, empathy, kindness in students. The book is supplemented
with interactive sessions through animations and Social–Emotional Learning, stories
and interactive activities with the students in the classroom.
The learning outcomes of the text have been designed keeping in mind the six levels
of cognitive learning according to Bloom’s Taxonomy. These six levels are remembering,
understanding, applying, analysing, evaluating and creating. A wide variety of fun
activities and lively illustrations have been included to keep the students engaged and
to make learning a joyful experience for them. Concepts have been explained through
illustrations and in-text activities, keeping the text simple and engaging. Concepts are
introduced through interactive activities and narratives which the students can relate to.
This interactive approach facilitates easy retention of the concepts. A variety of questions
and fun activities have been included at the end of each chapter to strengthen and
assess learning.
We believe that regular practice will not only lay a strong foundation at an early stage
but also develop lasting interest in the subject. We welcome suggestions and feedback
from teachers and students that will help us improve the series. We hope that series will
be a delightful learning experience for the children to a great extent.
