            The curriculum for The World Around Us for classes 3 to 5 are aligned with the
            guidelines of National Educational Policy 2020 and National Curriculum Framework
            for School Education 2023.

              The NEP 2020 is based on five core principles of access, equity, quality, affordability and accountability.
              The new approach seeks to make education more adaptable and comprehensive by emphasising
              fundamental skills, critical thinking, life skills, and social and emotional development.
              The NEP 2020 emphasises on the following key points.

                •   Universal access to quality Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) for all children
                •   Achieving universal Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN)

                •   Reducing the curriculum content to enhance essential learning, critical thinking, experiential
                   learning, hands-on learning, arts and sports integration
                •   Promoting multilingualism and the power of language learning
                •   Encouraging holistic and multidisciplinary approaches to education

                •   Introducing  competency-based  assessments  to  test  higher-order  skills  such  as  analysis,
                   critical thinking and conceptual clarity

              The aim of the NCF-SE 2023 in  The  World Around Us is to formalise the students’ informal
              understanding of the environment. The key objectives are as follows.

                •   Developing awareness of social and natural environment, and capability to explore immediate
                   environment.
                •   Developing sensitivity towards the components of environment and basic actions to be
                   undertaken.

                •   Developing appreciation of social and natural environment to strengthen values, and nurture
                   individuals and society.
                •   Developing holistic view of the students through interdisciplinary approaches

                •   Developing environmental values and dispositions such as appreciation of diversity, love and
                   respect for all beings, sensitivity towards the use of resources and rights of all beings.
