Crows, robins and sparrows have three toes in the front and one at

the back which curls around the branch to hold it firmly. It enables
the bird to sleep even while perching.

Woodpeckers and parrots have two toes in the front and two at

the back enabling the bird to climb up, down and sideways on tree
trunks. They help them to climb on to trees.

                                                                                              toes of woodpecker

            Migratory Birds

Some places become extremely cold in winter.
So, some birds fly long distances to warmer places in

search of shelter and food, and to reproduce. Such
birds are called migratory birds. The movement of

birds every year with change in season is called
migration. Swallow and Siberian crane are some swallow Siberian crane
            examples of migratory birds.

            Birds in Different Ecosystem

Birds are found in every ecosystem on Earth. They gradually get adapted to their
            surroundings.

y In forests, we see birds like woodpeckers, hornbills and owls
which live among tall trees and eat food such as insects, fruits
                   and small animals.

                                                                                                    hornbill

y In wetlands and rivers, we see ducks, herons and kingfishers that
feed on fish and water plants.
