Crows, robins and sparrows have three toes in the front and one at
the back which curls around the branch to hold it firmly. It enables
the bird to sleep even while perching.

Woodpeckers and parrots have two toes in the front and two at
the back enabling the bird to climb up, down and sideways on tree
trunks. They help them to climb on to trees.

Ostriches are fast running birds have two toes rather than four with
long and sharp claws. They have very strong legs to run fast.

Migratory Birds
Some places become extremely cold in winter.
So, some birds fly long distances to warmer places in
search of shelter and food, and to reproduce. Such
birds are called migratory birds. The movement of
birds every year with change in season is called
migration. Swallow and Siberian crane are some swallow Siberian crane
examples of migratory birds.
Birds in Different Ecosystem
Birds are found in every ecosystem on Earth. They gradually get adapted to their
surroundings.
y In forests, we see birds like woodpeckers, hornbills and owls
which live among tall trees and eat food such as insects, fruits
and small animals.
