Why Do Shadows Change?

Take a stick and ask observe its shadow at three different times of the day (morning, noon and
evening). Then record the length and direction of each shadow.
Now answer the question – Why do you think shadows change size and direction during the
day? Try to reason out the connection between the sun’s position and shadow movement.

Sky Talk

Divide the students of the classroom into small groups. Each group will get one topic out of
the following – rainbow, phases of the moon, clouds and constellations. Then prepare a short
explanation in simple words and present it in the class. The other groups can ask questions to
the one presenting.

Phases of the Moon Calendar

Take a blank monthly calendar. Observe the moon every night for 10–15 days and try to sketch
its shape with the help of an elder. Then organise the sketches in sequence on the calendar and
identify the pattern of phases of the moon.
