Our Earth
This unit helps us to understand the world around us – its land, sky, water and the ways we manage
waste. The unit explains the physical features of the Earth, important places and traditions of
India, and how people adapt to challenges. It also explores the wonders of the sky, from the
sun and shadows to the moon and stars. Learners will understand the importance of water and
its properties through real-life examples, while also discovering the need to save and manage

Chapter 11: The Land We Live In
This chapter explains the different landforms on the Earth such as
mountains, plains, plateaus and deserts. It introduces learners to
important places and monuments of India that show our rich heritage.
The chapter also discusses the challenges people face in different
regions like floods, droughts and extreme weather. Learners also
explore traditional food and attire in India, which reflect the country’s
diversity and culture. By learning this chapter, learners will appreciate
both natural and man-made features of the land and understand how
traditions and lifestyles are shaped by geography.

Chapter 12: Our Sky
This chapter explores the sky we see every day. In the day sky, learners
will learn about the sun, how it changes the colour of the sky and how
shadows are formed. In the night sky, the chapter explains the moon,
its phases and the stars that twinkle above us. Learners will also learn
about India’s proud achievement – the Chandrayaan Mission which
shows how science helps us understand space. The chapter inspires
curiosity about the universe and develops observation skills about the
natural changes in the sky.
