Health and Lifestyle

This unit teaches learners how to live a healthy, happy and safe life. It shows the importance
of food, hygiene, exercise, sleep, and the way we build our homes and wear clothes. The unit
also guides learners to value food, avoid waste and learn healthy habits. By understanding and
practising these lessons, learners can stay strong, prevent illnesses, and live in a clean and caring
environment. This unit helps them develop awareness about their daily choices and how these
choices affect their body, mind and surroundings.

                                              Chapters in the Unit

            Chapter 7: Food We Eat
This chapter explains why food is important and how it gives us energy
to work, play and grow. It introduces food groups like cereals, fruits,
vegetables, milk and pulses. Learners also learn where food ingredients
come from and how food reaches us through the journey of food. The
chapter also explains different cooking methods like boiling, roasting,
frying and steaming, which make food tasty and safe to eat. Children will
understand that cooking not only changes the flavour of food but also
makes it healthier in many cases.

This chapter tells us why we should value food and never waste it. The
chapter explains what a balanced diet is and why it is needed for proper
growth. The harmful effects of junk food are also discussed. Learners learn
about teeth and tongue, which help in chewing and tasting food, and
how digestion takes place. The idea of mindful eating teaches learners
to eat slowly with respect for food. The chapter also covers different ways
of storing and preserving food such as drying, pickling, refrigeration and
                                              canning.
